Hello May!

We are so very blessed to have made it to another month. We are already into the fifth month of the year, with seven more months left to go.  The month of May brings a few holidays with it. Mothers’ Day May 19th, gives everyone the opportunity to thank the most important woman in their life. While Memorial Day, May 28 is set aside to remember the people who have died while serving in the military.

Did you know the month of May was named after a goddess named Maia? A little known fact, there were two goddesses named Maia a Greek and a Roman. The Greek goddess Maia was one of the companions of Artemis. This Maia was the mother of Hermes, the messenger of the Gods. The Roman Maia was named for the Latin word for large, maius, and she was associated with fertility. As the Romans adopted many elements of Greek culture, the two goddesses became mixed up and both ended up lending their name to the month.
